History Of Taras Shevchenko National University
The university was founded in 1834 when Emperor Nicholas I of Russia signed the creation of the university and named after the ruler of Christianized the Kievan Rus and name is Saint Vladimir University. The university was started with 62 students and started the studies in History and Philology. But in 1920 the university was renamed Mykhailo Drahomanov University.
In 1939 the university was again renamed after Taras Shevchenko. In 1960 the university was open for international students and thousands of students applied for admission that year.
